OCL launches search alerts for the Registry of Lobbyists

News release

May 9, 2023 – Ottawa, ON

The Office of the Commissioner has introduced search alerts to the Registry of Lobbyists, the primary tool for transparency in the lobbying of government officials.

The new feature allows users to easily create alerts based on selected keywords such as names, subject matter, institutions, and other criteria. Whenever information matching the selected criteria is added to the registry, a notification is sent to the email associated with the alert.

Up to 10 alerts can be created per email address and users can unsubscribe at any time. The alerts are valid for 12 months following their activation.

Maintaining and enhancing the Registry of Lobbyists is a priority for the Office. In 2022, the Office conducted a survey to learn more about the features that would be of interest and most useful to its users. The Office hopes to continue to add new features to further make accessible the vast amount of information available in the registry.

Quotes

A vast amount of information and data is available in the Registry of Lobbyists, which can be overwhelming. The search alerts are a simple yet powerful tool to help individuals access information they may otherwise miss. They provide timely access to information, further supporting transparency.

We anticipate that this new feature will be of great value to a variety of stakeholders, including media, academics, lobbyists, government officials and many others.

Nancy Bélanger
Commissioner of Lobbying of Canada
